City bubbles are placed in Tanjong Pagar district as a part of Singapore Urban Design Festival taking place between 14th and 18th of March 2018.
Festival aims to ignite global movement in placemaking while transforming the Tanjong Pagar district into a hub of urban design thinking.
The intention behind The City Bubbles, besides of providing a resting opportunity, is to enliven the unclaimed public space by introducing to it aspects of surprise, joy and playfulness.
Formally inspired by soap bubbles and their outstanding visual qualities we propose an irregular agglomeration of spheres (bubbles) which can be seat on, leaned on or climbed on freely.
Iridescent effect steaming from interference of light reflecting from various surfaces of the spheres creates an ever-changing dynamic presence in the city.
The semi-transparent structure is a dynamic feature in Duxton Hill, Tanjong Pagar district and our consideration is as much on its appearance in street perspective as much as it is when seen from above, from surrounding buildings.
