The Fleming Hotel by A Work of Substance INTERIORS / 05 NOVEMBER 2017 / BY S O I S O U R C E
The Fleming is an urban boutique hotel featuring 66 guest rooms and a vibrant coastal Italian restaurant. Located in the lively Wan Chai district, The Fleming offers a memorable stay experience for the discerning traveler which is both international in outlook yet offering a strong sense of place in its design. The hotel is inspired by Hong Kong’s heyday during the industrial era of the 60’s and 70’s, as well as its unique maritime heritage.
The cornerstone of the design aesthetic is inspired by Hong Kong’s crossharbour ferries which symbolize travel, heritage and community. The colour palate of the hotel with bottle green details, and brass finishes mimic the look and feel of the ferries throughout the hotel. The interior designer, A Work of Substance, uses nostalgia and practicality to deliver a detailed yet efficient design. A signature scent evokes a feeling of old Hong Kong, an aroma of sandalwood and amber reminiscent of the fragrant harbour scents that emanated across the harbour of old.
